I’ve been to some impressive churches over the years (St. Peter’s in Rome, St. Patrick’s in NYC) and Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia is the coolest looking church I’ve ever stepped into. Spain has some pretty amazing churches (besides Sagrada Familia, we visited the largest church in Spain/third largest in the world in Sevilla, as well as the Mezquita in Cordova), but the Sagrada Familia is just intense.
We also visited two synagogues (not surprisingly, there aren’t many left in Spain…something about an Inquisition…), where I learned that the in the Middle Ages, the largest shul could only be as big as the smallest church, which meant that the two shuls we did visit that remain from those times (in Barcelona and in Cordova) were as big as my Brooklyn apartment.
But the Sagrada Familia…wow.
